Charmoné, one of the first high-end vegan shoe companies has been transforming the industry since 2006. Co-founders Jodi and Lauren started the company when a vegan friend told them about her frustration with having to wear leather because she couldn’t find a pair of vegan shoes that weren’t embarrassing to wear. They decided to tackle the problem head-on by creating an eco-luxury brand that was animal and people friendly, but fit the same design standards as mainstream luxury brands.
For some, the concept was difficult to comprehend – the phrase “Oh, like Birkenstocks” was far too familiar. But with walking celebrity endorsements from Natalie Portman and Emily Deschanel, these vegan shoes proved to be red-carpet ready. Since 2006, the company has invested heavily in ensuring it’s designs are detail perfect, use the best eco-friendly materials, and most importantly are comfortable to wear and stand the test of time.
The latest collection was made in Italy, where detail and design are a top priority of Charmoné’s eco-friendly fair trade manufacturer – with each style named after a member of the Charmoné family. I recently caught up with Jodi to take a look at the shoes for myself.. here are my favorites:
The Samantha, $260, is made of blue faux-lizard against a black 3.5″ heel with a peep toe, and side cutouts. Comfortable enough for a night out and versatile enough to wear with jeans.
The Lauren, $399 – faux suede boot with side detail with pink inner lining for maximum comfort, warmth, and sass. Available in black and tobacco.
Jodi, $279 -Available in grey and tobacco. Pretty on top, tough on the bottom. Rubber sole can withstand the longest of days.
